MaBaSo Trio in Piwnica pod Baranami
On July 26 at 9pm in Piwnica pod Baranami club performed MaBaSo trio – the flagship project of Bernard Maseli. This concert was dedicated to Grzegorz Grzyba – drummer from Laboratorium (/Electric Shepard) who died just 3 days earlier.
About the band
The trio debuted 6 years earlier during Summer Jazz Festival in Piwnica pod Baranami. Since then it became their standard joint project, even though they have numerous additional collaborators. This project was founded by Bernard Maseli (vibraphone), who was mostly known for his work in bands such as Walk Away, Music Painters, The Globetrotters and Dean Brown Band. Michał Barański (bass guitar) has collaborated with musicians such as Kuba Badach, Michał Urbaniak, Urszula Dudziak, Bennie Maupin and Nigel Kennedy. Meanwhile, Daniel Soltis is a slovakian drummer, known for collaborations with international stars Steve Walsh, Peter Lipa, Rich Perry and Ingrid Jensen.
The trio’s first album “Sunshine of Your Love” was released in 2014, and the newest one “We Will Rock U” in 2017.
As they say, after the incredible success of „Maseli on the Road” project, Bernard intends to take the fans on a trip through the world of modern electronic jazz, containing elements of open, improvised music.
Concert in Piwnica pod Baranami
Bernard Maseli said after the concert began: the first notes resounded and it already feels like heaven. He called his trio “an irreplacable squad”. What struck everyone’s eyes was the expressiveness of the leader’s movements and the positive interactions among the bandmates, but also the sadness at the death of Grzegorza Grzybek, with whom they gave a concert only a few days earlier. But despite that, it was hard for them to resist smiling, as they were realizing their deep passion for music.
The cosy atmosphere in Piwnica pod Baranami did not prevent the musicians from unleashing incredible energy. The trio’s usual sonic repertoire and nonstandard musical solutions greatly accompanied and supplemented each other.
The audience was heavily involved in the spectacle and expressed their awe with thunderous applauses. Coupled with the energetic performance, it maintained a positive atmosphere throughout the entire concert.
