Bolków is a small town located in the Lower Silesian Voivodship.
From the very beginning it was connected with the trade route from the Czech Republic to Poznań and Wrocław. The first information about the city comes from 1276, where it appears under the name Gaj.
In 1312, the prince of Świdnica Bernard added the name Bolków in honor of his father, and this name has remained to this day.
Hussite wars in the fifteenth century, however, prevented the development of the city, then ruled by the Czech king – George of Poděbrady knight Jan of Black, which, however, chivalry did not glorify and the robbery led to a war with Wroclaw and Swidnica. In the following years, the city was visited by numerous fires and earthquakes that caused stagnation lasting until the 19th century. Some recovery took place after the construction of the railway line.
After the war, the city was rebuilt and modernized. After the political transformation, for example, the railway line was closed, as a result of which the city is deprived of a railway, however, it compensates for a well-developed PKS network and a large number of buses running.
