The Regional Museum Seweryn Udziela in Stary Sącz was established in the historic “Dom za Dołkach” from the 17th century at the market square in Stary Sącz, for the merit of Towarzystwo Miłośników Starego Sącza. The museum began its activity based on collections of shoemaker Józef Paszkiewicz, who preserved and secured many priceless exhibits during the war of 1939-1940. Currently, the museum occupies all floors of the building. The visit begins with rooms presenting the history of the city and its outstanding representatives such as St. Kinga, the famous singer Ada Sari, Seweryn Udziela – ethnographer, patron of the museum and others. Among the many exhibitions deserve attention souvenirs after the visit of the Holy Father John Paul II, memorabilia associated with the person of Fr. prof. Józef Tischner and chaplain of President Lech Wałęsa – priest Colonel. Tadeusz Dłubacz. Rich collections of secular and religious paintings, examples of folk crafts, ethnographic collections and military items from the First and Second World Wars, complete the whole very interesting exhibition. The museum is open every day (except Mondays) from 10.00 to 13.00, and in May-August from 10.00 to 17.00.
