The location of the museum is related to the history of mining in Tarnów, which was a decisive factor in the dynamic development of the 19th century was the introduction of obsolete methods of dewatering, modern steam technology. In the years 1788-1804 8 steam engines were brought to the Tarnowskie Góry, which until 1834 pumped water from 17 shafts. The target use of steam pumps was to hollow the extensive sidewalks and shorten the implementation of the mine drainage system. On the initiative of the Association of Lovers of the Tarnogórska Region, in partnership with the Ministry of Economy, the historic steam engines from the years 1884 – 1954 were displayed in the museum.
