Siesta will say its farewell in Sunday night on 13 September with Anabela Aya’s concert in Parliment Club.
Anabela Aya was born in 1983 in Luanda, Angola. Her musical interests were cultivated by her mother, who led a church choir. Anabela – actor and singer – did not stop at religious music, but branched out into soul, afro-jazz and even fado. All of these influences can be heard on her recent album Kuameleli, for which she was nominated for “Best Central African Artist” and “Greatest Rising Talent”. She also won Luanda Song Festival in 2017, as well as critics’ award of Angola’s national radio station and the prestigious title “Diva of Angolan Music” a year later.
Anabela Aya is currently the greatest artist of Angola’s music scene and one of the most interesting vocals of modern African ethnic jazz. She is characterized by energy, virtuosery, charm and ease of collapsing borders of musical genres.
