13. Crakow Comic Book Festival

22 March 2024
Klub “Studio”, ul. Witolda Budryka 4
Kraków, Małopolskie 30-072 Poland

This year, on March 22-24, the Comic Book Festival will come to Krakow for the 13th (but probably not unlucky) time. Meetings with Polish and foreign artists, lectures, workshops, and a festival fair – all these activities will take place at the “Studio” Club (Witold Budryk 4 Street), during The Cracow Comic Book Festival.

Guests from Poland and abroad

Foreign guests include Lucie Arnoux (FR) – author of illustrations for comics about the adventures of Enola Holmes (published by Egmont). Mathieu Burniat (FR) and Geofroy Monde (FR) – authors of the premiere “Fury” (published by Kultura Gniewu). It is a reinterpretation of the Arthurian myth, with Princess Isabella in the main role. David Rubin (ES) – author of the science-fiction comic book “Fire” (published by Mandioca), where no spaceships, but a man stands in the center of the story. Václav Šlajch (CZ) – lecturer at the Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. Inga Levi (UA) – author of the “Double Exposure” series, presented at the Venice Biennale. Ludmiła Samuś (UA) and Bohdan Kordoba (UA) – authors of the comic book “333”, which tells in verse (!) about the current war in Ukraine.

The main guest of the festival will be the Argentinian screenwriter and cartoonist José Muñoz! His visit to the festival will coincide with the Polish premiere of his famous comic book series “Alack Sinner.”

Exhibitions from all over the world

There will be individual and group exhibitions with artists from all over the world. In the gallery of the Institute of Art and Design UKEN, at Podbrzezie 3 Street, the organizers will show an international, collective exhibition of comics, illustrations, and animation, entitled “This is fine!”. It is about the end of the Anthropocene, man’s relationship with nature, the depletion of fossil fuel resources, the climate crisis, and related migrations and wars. In the same building, we will also show a solo exhibition of Michał Arkusiński, the artist from Łódź.

The organizers will show a monographic exhibition by Tomasz Niewiadomski on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Ratman.  It’ll be available in the gallery of the Comic Book Museum Foundation, at Sarego 7 Street. You’ll be able to find Mateusz Kołek’s exhibition “Tangled States” („Stany splątane”)  at the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology. In addition, several smaller exhibitions will be in the “Studio” Club. They’ll include an exhibition of boards from the comic book “World Without End” by Christophe Blaine and Jean-Marc Jancovici, carried out in cooperation with the French Institute in Crakow; a collective exhibition of comic artists from North Macedonia, and two individual exhibitions: Robert Sienicki and Joanna Sempek.

The organizers of the 13th Crakow Comic Book Festival: the Crakow Comic Book Association, the Comic Book Museum Foundation, and the Krakow Festival Office – the operator of the Krakow UNESCO City of Literature program.
