Gdańsk Siesta Festival
Dorota Miśkiewicz and Toninho Horta. Concert premiere of the Bon Amigos album at the Gdańsk Siesta Festival. Can you feel the atmosphere?
After a guest appearance at the Most Melanchlii gala at last year’s festival, one of the most outstanding Polish singers returns with the premiere of her original, international, strictly siesta project!
Brazilian music has always fascinated Dorota Miśkiewicz. As the singer confesses – she is much closer to the warm south than to the cool north. The manifestation of this sympathy is, among others, the album Caminho, released in 2008, the color of which emphasizes the southern approach to rhythm, not only in sambas and bossanovas, but also in songs rooted in jazz.
12 years after the release of Caminho, Dorothy headed south again. This time literally. She went to Rio de Janeiro, where she recorded an album with the bossanova icon, one of the greatest guitar virtuosos in the world, Toninho Horta. The inspiration for his playing style was often emphasized by Pat Metheny, with whom Horta collaborated in the 1980s. Milton Nascimento, A.C., who worked with him for years, also expressed his admiration. Jobim, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock and Keith Jarrett.
In the city of eternal sunshine, during a week-long recording session with the participation of Brazilian musicians (Michael Pipoquinia – bass, Armando Marcala – drums), Dorota and Toninho created unique material that will be released on the album in 2023. It consisted of the most beautiful songs belonging to the canon of Brazilian music, including compositions by Toninho Horta.
We are happy and proud that the world concert premiere of this extraordinary undertaking will open the 13th Gdańsk Siesta Festival. Can you feel the atmosphere?
