Julia Fordham, enchanting with her beautiful voice, came to Poland for the first time. She cast a spell on the Ladies’ Jazz Festival audience, so that they couldn’t help but fall in love with her songs. After her performance, we asked her about her new album coming in October.

It’s your first time in Poland, how do you feel about that?

Wonderful! We flew on the first global IT meltdown day and didn’t think we would make it to Gdynia yesterday. We are so grateful because we had a beautiful day wandering around this lovely place. The audience was incredible, and the Ladies’ Jazz Festival was fantastic. We are really glad we came. Unfortunately, we go home tomorrow. We did one day in Gdynia yesterday and tomorrow we are going to Gdańsk.

Do you feel more British or American?

I sound British, I feel British, but my child is American. I have a Californian child, she is nineteen. So now my heart is in California, where my daughter is.

When you look back at the times when you were at the peak of popularity, are there any differences between Julia 30 years ago and now?

Yeah, I’m just fatter now. No, I’m joking. I think that in many ways, I feel exactly the same. I think that you have less, become more measured the all that you get. I haven’t really changed that much. Motherhood probably changed me more than my music.

Could you give a piece of advice for the young musicians?

When I first started I had to make a demo and get a record deal. I think now you can do whatever you want whenever you want. Just write the song finish after you’ve recorded it, and put it out immediately.  Don’t wait to finish this. Don’t wait to graduate college, don’t wait for your bedroom to be tidy. Just don’t wait, just do it because now the only way to get music out, unless you go to Poland got a talent show, is to record it and release it straight digital.

A few days ago you released a single called “My Old Table” do you have any specific memory about your table?

I think the one in the middleware says about 24 elbows being on the table. I have memories of all the family, friends, and relatives visiting my house. All being crumbs around the table. Our birthdays and tea parties. This is not one particular memory it’s like all the wonderful Christmases, Easters, and other special occasions were at the same table.

What inspires you lately?

Well, everything in my house – my table, on a new album there is a song called “Cherry on a porch”. My daughter goes to college and now I’m reflecting and everything inspires me. To be honest my new inspirations are my house and garden.

In October you are publishing a new album. The song “My Old Table” will be there, but what about other songs?

The song “Birthmade” is about being with the father of my daughter. There is a song called “Circus” that is about me wanna run off and join the circus. There is a song reflecting on all the family memories that are dead now. There are also some duets. It’s a really strong record and actually, I’m very proud of it.
