Davy SICARD – Siesta Festival 2023
Davy Sicard will perform at the Parliament club to say goodbye to this year’s Siesta.
Davy has been our good stranger from a distant happy island since his early Siesta albums. Whenever we tried to invite him to the Festival, it turned out that he was back in Reunion, in other words, in paradise sewn into the blue of the Indian Ocean. Although he was born in Paris, he remains faithful to the musical traditions of the island of his ancestors. “You have to know where you come from to be able to move forward,” he says. His songs often have their roots in the maloya dance, which in turn comes from the culture of African slaves brought to Réunion in the 18th century. But Davy does not shy away from reggae and even Parisian chanson. However, it is always music full of light, sensuality, and the pulse of Africa. We end the 13th Festival with our annual African Night at the Parliament club, for the first time so early, at 8 p.m., so that no one is looking at their watch at midnight, because in a moment the prose of life awaits us.
